Be Nice to the Tools
Part of being excellent to each other is being nice to the tools provided at the Hack Factory.
- If you aren't sure of how to use a tool safely and correctly, ask for help
- Respect the tool-labeling system
- Keep tools in safe state – check them for safety before using, and make them safe when you're done
- Provide your own consumables, or pool in with others
- Tell the shop manager if a tool is broken, unsafe, or needs maintenance
- If you know how to maintain a tool, coordinate with the shop manager before doing the work
- Clean the tools and work area when you're done
- Use tools for the stuff they're intended for. For example:
- Don't cut wood with the metal saw – those blades are expensive
- Don't cut Lexan with a wood blade in a table saw, that's dangerous and kills the blade
