There are plans for a Handmade Music Minneapolis #7 but as there is uncertainty as to the immediate future of the space where TC Maker is currently located we have stopped short of posting details as we might have to postpone it.
The short of it is that we sub-lease and we were informed that our super-leasers are leaving putting us in quite the precarious situation; we can keep the place but we will need to assume the full rent.
We need new members to join, our rent will go up 1000 or so more dollars.
As many of you that have been coming to Handmade Music events have shown some interest in the tcmaker/Hack Factory, I would encourage you to either become a member or give a small donation.
We have a really neat matching program going on right now, if we meet 1000 dollars in donations one of our members will match it.
If you are able to give your donation can be considered for a tax deduction.
A full explination of the issue and the status of the things can be found at the main tcmaker site.
As always if you have any suggestions, or ideas email, call, us or post stuff here on the blog.
This has happened to us before and we were able to rise to the occasion, hopefully with your help we can do it again.
If you are on the tipping point of weather to join or not I would recommend watching this TED talk
Sunday, March 27 · 7:00pm – 10:00pm @ The Hack Factory
Handmade Music is an open event series for people who make stuff that makes music, from instruments to electronics to software. Events include workshops, get-togethers, and live music, all are welcome.
Canceled due to the snow storm. Josh is planing on still going to the hack factory to let the people know who didn’t get the message. Please let your friends who were planing on going know it is canceled.
Handmade Music 4 was a success about 30 0r so people made their way to the event, that was pretty neat and a good time. Some new faces and some old. We had a Ustream going for a bit as it was announced on Tcmaker’s twitter feed.
A short review:
Emily gave her contact mics talk and got a lot of awesome feedback from the audience. There was some confusion as to the meaning of Piezo Wikipedia says “Piezo”, derived from the Greek piezein, which means to squeeze or press.
Andres brought his hand made recording/pitch shifting/ribbon controller/vactrol/baby head guitar thing and explained how it worked..
Hot Tony exhibited an awesome PD patch that he whipped up that turned a pendulum into a drum machine. He also went over the basics of his setup and how he put some of his synths together.
Ogre Smash Death Boom played a few songs and used the mop plus duct tape for a mic stand.
It was a great night, thanks to everybody who came out and perforated.
Handmade Music: Minneapolis is scheduled for some time in February, watch this space and or the Tcmaker blog for dates.
Emily Iwuc is going to give a workshop on making contact Mics and she is working on screenprinting some awesome HMMM shirts (although I don’t know if they will be done in time.)
Will Dixon is going to give a workshop on guitar set up and play with his band Sorry OK.
Andres Varela is gonna show of his Handmade ribbon controller.
