Ok, I took the pdf I got from Metis and used it as the basis for a
very rudimentary model in Google SketchUp (a free download from
http://sketchup.google.com/)
Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that the floorplan (which should be visible in x-ray mode) is not exactly accurate to the space (i.e. how does one get downstairs?)
Ceiling heights are total guesses on my part.
I created a layer called 'Alternative 1' and put the whiteboard version of the drawing roughly in place. The basement and the front office aren't there yet.
Once I get a dimensioned drawing, and maybe have a chance to take measurements of the space, I'm hoping we can make use of the Z-dimension in planning. Member storage, for example seems to scream for a set of sturdy steel racks that run to the ceiling along with a set of rolling stairs.
Looks like I can't upload .skp files to the board. It's available here:
http://www.bruteforce.org/hackfactory_space_20110602.skpWhat's the best way to collect suggestions or other alternatives? Feel free to add a layer and make changes. Or if people just want to have a discussion, you can forward me the notes, and I'll try my best to interpret it.
