I'm a new member as of last Wednesday (you can blame Riley for the great tour he gave). I poked around the forums and wiki a bit and couldn't find too much related to my question -- so here goes.

I'm wondering if we have access to a floorplan of the shop, including the new space. Maybe the building owner has a copy? If not, do we have accurate measurements of the space? I would be willing to draft up a floorplan and the space in SketchUp so that members could propose ideas for tool placement/project storage, etc. I did see this (http://www.tcmaker.org/wiki/doku.php?id ... ck_factory)

Do people think this would be valuable?

On a related note, do we have a summary of the service capabilities to the space? Electrical specifications, gas supply sizing, etc?

i've a request into the new landlord, and suspect that they have a DWG of the space from documents he was showing us at the lease negotiation. i'm hoping to have that tuesday. several folks were working on one, but this should be more accurate. (i'd love to get a revit model of the space up and running)

electrical, a sparky went through a while back and determined that we've got a LOT of power, but we do need to get one back in to attempt to build up a circuit diagram of the place.

gas, that 6"? red pipe is gas, it wanders about the building for other tenants, but lines hit our basement for the boiler, and opposite corners of the shop for the furnaces in there.

Maybe you could help us during the planning process! Michael do we have a date of when we are doing the planning meeting? We should get that date on the calendar so people and help us design our new space

Are any members electricians or plumbers, or know someone who would cut us a deal or barter labor?

james, yeah it's a lil spendy, but it's the best architectural modeler by several miles. and the viewer is free.

Ok, I took the pdf I got from Metis and used it as the basis for a very rudimentary model in Google SketchUp (a free download from http://sketchup.google.com/)

Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that the floorplan (which should be visible in x-ray mode) is not exactly accurate to the space (i.e. how does one get downstairs?)

Ceiling heights are total guesses on my part.

I created a layer called 'Alternative 1' and put the whiteboard version of the drawing roughly in place. The basement and the front office aren't there yet.

Once I get a dimensioned drawing, and maybe have a chance to take measurements of the space, I'm hoping we can make use of the Z-dimension in planning. Member storage, for example seems to scream for a set of sturdy steel racks that run to the ceiling along with a set of rolling stairs.
