Next Wednesday, 6/8 -- I realize it's our annual meeting -- Make: Live will be covering hackerspaces. Naturally, they'll be featuring us for a whole six minutes! They want to see a snippet of the social scene at the HF and look at 1-3 projects. We'll be Skyping in to the show.

I don't think this will be a huge time crunch, maybe a half-hour total including setup. The only stumbling block is the meeting. Any thoughts on how we can do both?

Also, what projects should we demo? 10X, certainly.

Do they just want to see the space, i.e. The Hack Factory, or do they want to see the people, too, i.e. Twin Cities Maker(s)? This would be an awesome time to make the distinction clear.

We have 6 minutes; we definitely don't want to get into that bucket of worms.

Do we know when on the 8th? Is there are guesstimate as to the time slot?

The show starts at 8pm and ends at 8:30pm, that's all I know right now. I imagine with queuing projects, testing video and so on there'd be at least 20 minutes' lead time.

with luck the annual meeting will be done by then (i'm an optimist) i'd say rather than "demo" stuff, we just have folks do their wednesday eve stuff, of work on things, and hang out. let the camera wander and say hi to a few folks.

Michael, my only concern with that is the time crunch. 6 minutes, including 1-3 project overviews, doesn't make for a lot of wandering! Let's talk about it tonight. Maybe we could "concentrate" a bunch of willing folks in one area so we can swing over there without delay. Also, this is a live show so we're going to need everything to transition quickly.

yeah, hiking from the classroom to the welding area and back to the radial arm is not ideal, but "staging" things in an "oh hi there" kinda way will seem odd too, unless we camp it up and make it clear it's staged, which would seem to be the anti-point of live vid from a makerspace, but i'm not the producer.

i was thinking more getting a few things out and working, and letting things roll.

from a logistics standpoint, is there production staff coming in, or will this be you and volunteers? are you going to need our wifi pipe somewhat dedicated?

No production team. It will be strictly laptop, webcam, and wifi.

Quick thought, grinding, CNCing, sawing etc, could all make this impossible, I'd suggest that an announcement or two be made ahead of time, (and hey we have a PA) that this will be happening, and that a call for relative quiet will be being made when our slot comes up.

It is excellent to be forewarned.
