I couldn't find any state laws regarding searchlights, but MN statute 609.857 covers "discharging a laser at an aircraft." We're safe then, there's nothing coherent about us light or otherwise Pete

You could just paint them on the side of the building. I was thinking cd burner lasers which are bright but would likely not make it up to a plane, and if it did, would hardly be a point at that point. I'm all about the smoke machine though, I've heard tell from the electric cigarette folk that regular wallmart vegtable glycerin is great for creating a lot of 'smoke'. Add a heating element and a fan and away you go! I do think that it would be a terrible shame to make a search light without a logo though.

most fog juice is glycerine or glycol, but the heating element temp has to be really accurate or you get some bad things happening, and end up with a slippery mess.

One thing to keep in mind is we are on the edge of a residential neighborhood, i all for adding stuff that stands out but just remember someone has to look at it everyday and may not get the artistic value.

Dang, it's only been a week and I could barely find this thread, it's getting busy on the forums.
Sorry I've been to distracted to do anything useful with the lights, but we do have 3 now. I'm not sure what they were up to in the basement, but two became three. Two are plugged in and charging by the Riley arsenal area. Feel free to play. They have a set of male AC prongs on the back, a cheap household extension cord plugs right on and away you go, at least in theory. We'll likely want to get rid of the batteries, not sure if the transformer / rectification can run them directly or not. One or more also had a 12 input that was for car use.
As fate would have it there's also a large Batman symbol made of metal further down the wall, not sure who's but it seems perfect for focal point experimentation with the lights, if you do so, be careful with it.

Once somebody does the math for the focal point we should cut out a TC Hex logo inverted.
That might be a good project for the folks in the Oxy class on the 20th, group project?

Good thought. Though it may be rather tiny, the beam is only a few degrees wide, I'll try and play a bit this afternoon, I have to cut stuff for my son's school project.
