I went to the Living Green Expo last weekend, and I saw a very nice VAWT on display by mnwind.us
they also had a neat little bank of capacitors product that showed off the "slowing down" of a power meter due to local inductive load balancing of these capacitors. The product is called kVar energy controller: http://www.kvar.com/1001/products/

In any case, it made me think that TCMaker's large electrical loads are probably motors spinning for saws, lathes, grinder, spinning things, etc. Maybe a similar bank of capacitors would be easy to add to the hack factory to both reduce the electric bill and increase local power efficiency...

Pretty neat. Some of the wind farms that I have worked on have opted for Cap bank for the same reason and to bump up the voltage as well.
