it would seem defecit spending, the big doomsday colider, and documentable cold fusion, although perpetual motion seems to be popular....

I'm just enjoying the images that the phrase "armada of little motorized vehicles" brings to mind

No fezzes, though.
Let me say that again: NO FREAKIN' FEZZES.
Almost any other kind of hat would be fine, or none. Or, hey -- wigs!

I've been mulling over the "armada of little motorized vehicles" idea some more and came up with "free range bumper cars".

As a kid, I thought it'd be great if you could drive the bumper car right out of the amusement park & keep going. I just googled this & it seems I'm not the only one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_b3A9acHag

We could each design & decorate our cars according to our own tastes, skills & aesthetics & collaborate on fabrication techniques, motor controls, power source & other technical issues.

I'm a little concerned about the "$50,000 to modify them so they’re street legal" part.

Actually, you know... I think I really, really like this idea. Turns the whole Shriner concept on its... er, off its head.
