Make: television, Geek Squad and Science Museum of Minnesota are extremely excited to announce the first public event based on Make: television called Make: Day!

Make: Day celebrates the ingenuity and inventiveness in our community. Building off the success of Maker Faires and the American Maker events, Make: day will give local engineers, artists, tinkerers and inventors the opportunity to showcase their DIY creations to Science Museum visitors.

Festivities will take place on March 14th,from 10 am to 3 pm throughout the Science Museum's exhibit galleries. The event is included in the regular admission price and free to all members of the museum.

Here are some of the things you'll find:

* Dozens of other local talented Makers, several of which appear on the first season of Make: television
* All of the Maker Workshop projects including the Burrito Blaster and the DTV Antenna
* Demonstrations from Makers and musical performances emceed by our very own William Gurstelle
* Tons of hands-on activities for people of all ages

OK, I agree, if makers we be.

This will be at the Science Museum, indoors. There's going to be families & kids. Lots of kids.

I'm envisioning a booth with some sort of eye-catching Rube Goldberg contraption which dispenses colorful monogrammed stamped trinkets, or makes sno-cones, or cups of fresh juice... or something equally vend-able. The concept of the apparatus would be to convert an inexpensive bulk material into something nifty and kid-friendly, in a fun and spectacular fashion.

Could also have a "craft table" with the stuff to make LED throwies, bristlebots, recycled-PCB jewelry (?), or the like. Something that doesn't require soldering.

More brainstorm! Go!

Sounds like a lot of fun, but unfortunately going to be in London that day.

one thing that has come up at the meetups is a project.

this sounds like an ideal group project, maybe some sort of balls course, or something that we can get a lot of meida types into.

we could start to brainstorm this and even put together pieces at meetusp before then.

Has anyone given any more thought about us having a presence at this event?

Even if we didn't have a group project to present, it might be kinda cool to have a table
with some of us and our individual show & tell projects, along with some info materials about
the group.

Gah! ...no, this is one thing we should probably discuss at the meetup tomorrow night too; I'm making a list.
Fortunately we still have a month plus change before the event.

John Baichtal from GeekDad is asking about our plans for this on twitter. He suggests t-shirts which is a good idea at the very least.

T-shirts are always good, but as this is a Maker event, I'd say the stenciling (silkscreening, applique, etc.) should be done right there in the booth, so the kid (customer) gets to walk away with something s/he has made with her/his own hands. Price could be cost of materials; it'd be advertising for us, essentially.
