thanks for all of the interest, guys! it really was short notice, but i just found out about it on sunday and put out the SOS as soon as i got home from the shanties. yes, it must be done on the 15th. i can talk to mary tomorrow and see if we can start on it saturday evening, but that's the best that we can hope for at this point.

the reason that they're doing this is because the shackelton group isn't from the midwest (they're based out of north carolina) and they don't seem to have the intention to do this one again next year. they're trying to find locals to dismantle it and haul it off the ice but if they can't find anyone, then it's going to be destroyed.

i'm thinking that we should meet up on wednesday evening, as usual, to discuss this. i don't recall that we scheduled a meeting for this week, so we can just take over the normal meeting time and maybe place to talk logistics. please let me know if this works for everyone.

i'll also note that if there is any reason to believe that the ice isn't safe on sunday, this project will be abandoned. yes, this is a great opportunity, but it is not work risking anyone's safety.

Things may be changing for me this weekend, I may be staying home to babysit a sick cat (dog bite to the eye, trip to emergency vet, yay), but if they do I will be without the van, not sure my Matrix will be much help in the hauling department.

We could rent a truck at Reddy Rent.

Anyway I'll keep you posted.

And what happens if it can't be removed from the ice on the 15th because of conditions? The likelihood seems good that the ice with firm up again before spring.

I just sent an email off to the artshanties info email asking if they are expecting the ice to be safe this weekend. Will report back

i'd imagine if the ice is unsafe they'll present an alternate removal date, or we build an air boat...
