MF'in unemployment (and underemployment)

Postby Theo » Tue Mar 09, 2010 1:52 pm

Hey all --

Every time I hear about somebody else I know getting laid off, or struggling to find work, I cringe inside. I've lived with too much of that myself.

There's not a whole lot I can do about it personally, and I earnestly wish I could do more, but if any of you might be considering the option I've taken, then please, please contact me.

(no spaces, @ and . instead of the words; you know the drill)
Or just call me, if you already have my cell.

To recap, or for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about: After a year and a half of the gathering only sparest crumbs of work, I joined the Army. Specifically, active-duty regular Army, as opposed to Nat'l Guard or Reserve. I'll be training to be an Intelligence Analyst. I don't mean to slight the Navy, Air Force, etc., but I'm 39, so I was pretty much out of luck as far as the other branches, due to age limits; the cutoff for the Army (assuming no prior military service) is 42, though.

I know a military career path isn't for everybody, believe me. For any number of reasons. But more folks like us are needed, and it's real work, with real challenges. I'll answer any questions you may have to the best of my ability, and if I can't, I'll refer you to somebody who can. I'll be available through April 27th.

Take care and stay strong.

Future SPC Durbin, US Army
Former Secretary, Twin Cities Maker
