After the meeting on Wednesday I thought I would start a discussion on details related to electronics design and build resources. While my interests extend way beyond this field, it is my core competency.
First, I would like to suggest discussion of a goal. What sort of design and build capabilities should we have? Second, what do we need to get there? Third, how will it be managed? Forth, what can I contribute?
1. I would like to help create a space that supports a wide variety of builds. Bread boarding, wire wrap, single and multilayered PCB fabrication.
2. Given the discussion on Wednesday here is my list of tools and supplies:
*Course Solder Iron
*Fine Solder Iron
*Wire Wrap Tools
*Hand tools: Pliers, wire strippers, tweezers, screwdrivers, crimpers etc.
*DC Power Supplies
*Parts! We have all been to circuit labs, we know what we need.
3. I have no idea. I know that I would like to have a wide variety of parts available (limit digikey shipments!). I would be nice to have an honor system where you record what you use. Would it work? Also, I have yet to come across a system of storing parts that I don't hate. Small plastic drawers, similar to the type used to store screws, are the devil.
4. I will make available my O-Scope, DC Power Supply, and Function generator. I am also willing to contribute to acquiring more advanced equipment. I also have an electronics work bench that is in fairly good condition.
Again, I am just framing a discussion. Hopefully this gets something started.
