Hey folks -- I've just confirmed with PMI that we're still on to check out the potential workshop space on Taft St. NE this afternoon. Steve, the guy who's managed the building for many years, will be meeting us there. Parking right on Taft is fine. Steve apparently drives a big orange Dodge Daytona, so he should be easy to spot.

Well, I finally did make it out to the space this afternoon; Metis, Wammie, Idris and Orion were already there, talking with Steve (the building manager of many years). Steve showed folks the 4640 sf space (still my fave) and the 3000 sf space, which I didn't like so much, but I suppose it could be made to work. It would be almost $1000 less per month, too, so there's that.

The 3000 sf space is the one that has its own door to the street, which I'll grant is nice. And it does have a roll-up door, which I'd somehow missed last time; we'd likely want to widen it a bit, and since it needs work anyway, that could probably be arranged. I don't think there's any plumbing in there, though; somebody please correct me if I'm remembering wrong. Also, we'd need to wall off that hot noisy transformer. (Like, build a proper mechanical room or closet.) And, well, 3000 really is a lot less than 4600.

Yes, there was a utility sink just inside the entry door and to the left. I very much favor the larger space over the 3000 sq. ft. space! It's got office space, a break room area, a raised platform perfect for observing the floor, and more. I think this larger space would generate a LOT more enthusiasm than the 3000 sq. ft. area. But -- I hate those "buts" -- we certainly would need to have a committed member base to keep our heads above water financially.

Sweet holy jeebus, the 4600 space is awesome, but also out of our price range unless we have many more fully paying members than I am aware of. I still don't think we've gotten good numbers on what our membership would look like, and unless we do that, I think the 3000 space could be easily made to work. I really like the building though, and I like the tenants we'd be sharing the building with. I did notice a shared bathroom in the loading dock, which I don't think anyone else has mentioned yet, so really, we'd just be looking for a sink and maybe a shower to start off with.
