web browser info

Postby paulsobczak » Thu Apr 16, 2009 12:57 am

I would say this is pretty browser savvy group we got here considering that IE currently has a ~70% market share. (who ever is using IE knock it off. :) )

Opera was the first to do tabbed browsing I believe. That's why I started using it. Before I got on RSS, I could setup a folder and have all bookmarked sites open at once.

Opera scales pages better than any other browser I've tried. Just press + or - keys to scale a page. Since my eyesight isn't the greatest, this comes in very handy. It's very fast on my computer. I don't know about the bloatware complaint. The executable for Opera is 97KB while Firefox is 301KB. I know this doesn't mean schmotz in terms of in-use resources. I'd like to know though how much memory Firefox consumes if you have 20 tabs open with graphics on the pages. Ballpark figure.

[EDIT: Well, I could try this myself with 20 of the same pages.]

Better nowadays (v3.0+) than it used to be, I'll just bet.

wammie: on Android. compared to the internal browser or steel (the popular alternate browser) it's BIG.

Opera, has continually been the on the leading edge of web standards, they were the first to support css, with is now common place, They are basically the opposite of Windows as far as rendering of html/css/ goes. But I don't use it.

Open GL is a graphics environment, not sure what you mean by that.
