Tour De Ax-Man

Postby jtbarclay » Fri Apr 03, 2009 3:32 pm

So I went to all 3 ax-man locations today, you can read about it on my blog. I got a little bored with ax-man, what other surplus type places are good to go to? Or is Ax-man the best there is? Since I'd be coming from Stillwater, it'd have to be good enough to be the final destination because I don't really ever go to the west burbs.

We should see about getting some fliers on the counter or in the window at Ax-Man.

If you've got a time machine, you can go back about 20 years and go to Crazy Louie's. Loved that place! Acme Electronics used to be really cool back in the 80's. Used to be on Washington, but moved to Golden Valley and turned extremelely lame, by most accounts. Ambles is still around. They used to have a tent at the State Fair. They used to be cooler than they are now, too. (Dad said that in the early 60's they had a power turret from a B-24 or some such thing in the fron of the store.) But the store is still kinda interesting. It's mostly an industrial surplus place: scrap metal, metal stock, some scrap machines, old mill and drill bits that are mostly used up. But there's occasional hardware and random pieces of scrap metal that sometimes come in handy.

Speaking of scrap yards, could we start getting together a list of local scrap yards for more of the bulk metal type stuff?
