I've been a member for a few years now and am mainly hands-off but have been
an extremely active recruiter that usually only comes in to the space to give tours.
I was at the last board meeting (elections) and we had a huge discussion of branding.
I searched the forums and the last posting about this was a few months ago without
hinting at a resolution.
-What the hell are we calling ourselves?
-Who are the ideal membership candidates?
I basically live at the UMN and all of my peers are about 18-25, I cannot back it up empirically,
but my experience says that the VAST majority of prospects are way more responsive to "The
Hack Factory" instead of "TC Maker". It is a demographic thing, recruiting youth is vital.
I understand the controversy about the word "Hacker" but "Maker" is way too androgynous and
vanilla. It also needs explanation. I have always voted for the "Hack Factory" with the idea
that "TC Maker" would resurface when/if we expanded to an additional space. "Hacker" is just
sexier and easier to inspire.
So, what am I telling all the people I give the business card too?
