Seward Art Crawl @ Hack Factory: Fri.-Sat., Dec. 2-3, 2011

Postby wammie » Sat Nov 12, 2011 2:30 pm

All,

Twin Cities Maker is excited to be participating in this year's Seward Art Crawl as part of the Seward Arts Festival and Franklin Frolic. The theme for the festival is Fire and Ice.

Our participation will include an open house for the preview and main art crawl events. The preview will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, December 2, and the main art crawl will be from 12-5 PM on Saturday, December 3.

We have provided the Seward Neighborhood Group the following text for the event brochure and our participatory art offerings:
Twin Cities Maker shows a flame-throwing snowman, snowball-hurling Foshaybuchet, ice candle making, interactive art, and more! Hack Factory, 3119 E. 26th Street.

The flame-throwing snowman will be a mechanical model and not made of snow, assuring that if we do not have any snow cover that we'll have a display. Likewise, we aim to produce fake snowballs for the Foshaybuchet in case there is no snow.

Karin F., Riley H., myself, and a few others have committed to helping with this event, but we'd like to know who else can help with getting the space ready, facilitating craft activities, cleanup, promotion, and other related tasks.

Please post below if you would like to participate in this event and how you can contribute, or if you have any suggestions. Note that we do not have to limit ourselves to providing only the stated art showings, so if we have the resources and time to show more, we can.

Let's get crawling!

Are there plans to restore the spoonapult? It looks a little worse for wear, but it should probably make an appearance - after all, it's one of our iconic pieces, like the Operation game.

I'd like to hear more about space usage so that we can plan the art thang. How will we be using the classroom?

Right now it is my plan to be in the space for most of Saturday the 3rd, ready to help with what might need to be helped with. I'll be bringing my crazy steampunk boombox.

I'll be in on Saturday too--assign me as you will. I'm also planning to be around this afternoon to lend a hand--but I won't be around for the Preview itself.

If someone wants to make a post on the blog for this that would be neat.

I'd call this event a great success. I really enjoyed seeing the stuff made by others in the space. Thanks to all who toted their projects in. Thanks to Wammie, and anyone else responsible for registering us for the crawl. I had a great time, and I think there were as many as 80-90 curious first-timers that came through our space. There surely were a few potential members in that bunch.

Yes, thanks, everyone! It was great fun! Props to all those who helped clean and organize the space too! I don't know all who were involved and I don't want to risk missing anyone by naming names, but your efforts were most excellent!
