As mentioned by Brandon in this post. GiveMN is hosting a fundraising event on the 16th of November.

GiveMN and Springboard for the Arts are currently our partners for getting TC Maker tax-deductible donations. as far as I understand things

Each hour on the 16th a random donor will be chosen and have an additional $1,000 added to their donation. At the end of the day a random donation is also selected for a $10,000 bonus.

So, have there been any awesome brainstorming (or better yet, action) sessions on capitalizing on this awesome opportunity? I've been absent from the space for a solid two weeks now so I don't know if it has come up. Do we have any plans to promote this day in particular?

I know that donating for the sake of a deduction is a bad idea and that most members would probably just be more comfortable with donating directly to TC Maker and not giving up the processing fees. I'm going to take advantage of the day to donate something and take advantage of my employers small charitable donation matching program. Something that I can't currently do directly with TC Maker. Sure doing it on this day in particular only gets me a <1% chance of getting a bonus from GiveMN but it's still nice to promote specific events. Otherwise folks will just be like, yea, I'll do that tomorrow and before you know it the year has ended.

So, talk with your friends, family, neighbors, etc. Talk up the values of TC Maker and the hackerspace culture and see if they don't feel like giving a few bucks as a donation. We can't get everybody to be a member but there are surely some folks out there who think we're on to something good and might want to help out.

each hour of the day a random donation will be selected for a bonus gift. it doesn't matter the value, they just lottery one random donation each hour and add a bonus to it. obviously donations at non peak hours have a higher chance of adding the bonus, so giving early and often improves odds.

fees are waived for the day, so we see all of the money donated there.

donations can be a great gift for the hard to buy for maker.

Well I made my shot at an off hour donation, trying for the $1000 bonus.

Anywho. At the time of typing I see the bar at $3,250 raised of $5,000 goal.

Did all of that happen today?! or is that a year to date sort of thing? I'm hoping the former

it's everything we've ever raised through givemn, last i'd checked we raised a bit more than we did last year on gttm day just shy of $400. exact dollar ammt to be updated in the next day or two.

If true, I'm bummed.
