we want to build 8 computers for classes

Hey all.

We're looking to put together some computers for computer related classed.

We just got a donation of 7 ati FireGL graphics cards to kick off this little project.

If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, or parts, or wants to work on this, let us know.

I did notice that these are agp cards, so they might only work with older boards, but a start's a start by golly!

Let me know when this build happens, I want in on it. And I'll see what spare PC parts I have lying around at my workshop to donate.

Count me in!!! I have an Abit NF7-S motherboard with I think 1GB of ram and a decent video card that I'll donate to the cause if we can get it working. The motherboard BIOS stopped responding though, and wouldn't even beep after stripping down to the bare board. Might be a fried CPU or bad board, but if it can be resurrected it's a zippy mother[board].

Somewhere at the HF there are three P4 (or amd equiv) motherboards that were donated with cpu/fan by a guy from the Asterix User Group.

Also once we get near the end, FreeGeek Twin Cities has a store of sorts to sell stuff to make rent, ram is a buck or two depending on DDR or DDR2 and size ( they sell 256 and 512 mostly)

They also have displays, whole systems, etc but they all have a price.

(BTW as we look around the HF and find units that are too old or out of date, Free Geek Recycles the plastic, metal, etc so we can bring them some revenue while reducing e-waste and not filling up the dump)

Yesterday Booka assisted with testing my NF7-S motherboard. The good news is that it appears to still be alive - it gave out one long beep and two short beeps, indicating it can't communicate with the video card, which is entirely expected as we didn't have a video card plugged in.

Also, I did find the case that I had this in orginally, containing my never-used 450W power supply. These components are pretty good however, so if we find some discarded components that will work I might opt to keep these.

Looks like things are coming together for this build. I have a decent 128M video card and maybe even a working hard drive.

i've got 3 motherboards and some RAM in my geek space. I might even have a case or two...

This is awesome good news.
We're going to have to dedicate a space for this stuff and start getting things together.

Karin, any idea where this should be happening? Mayhap in the Art Factory Community Studio?
