Laser cutter contest

Postby smittex » Sat Oct 08, 2011 6:37 am

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/hackaday ... Y3PU6cpyw/

We can win a cnc laser cutter by doing a project using light. 2 things come to mind that I've been wanting to do. 1) Steven and I have discussed creating a computer using light (and prisms and mirrors) by mimicking the behavior of transistors. Instead of electrons flowing, photons would be flowing. 2) a digital light spectrograph using diffraction film and a cmos imaging sensor to digitize the light spectrum. Is there any interest in here for these projects or contest? Do you have any "light" project ideas?

even if we don't win i think a light (no pun please) computer would be fun to build. Also a great way to demo how a computer actually works. Finding the components might be tough though.

So far, there has only been ONE entry in this contest. Can we garner more support for a project using light?

Here's the link to the rules, etc.

3+ prizes! Cnc laser, green wickedlasers laser, Electroluminescent wire starter kit, and El wire "bonuses".

Although it may not be unique, would the Glass Brick Pixel project qualify as an entry?

I would say so! If we want to make it unique, how about making a shooting game from the ol' NES gun or bazooka? Or have it display scores of some game like from the arcade cabinet?

Is Jonathan a regular on the forums? Maybe we should get him involved in the conversation! He's a very smart and motivated guy from what I've been able to gather. Might as well put him to work ;-)

After seeing this cool post from hackaday regarding creating a "camera" using leds instead of a cmos sensor( http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/hackaday ... MrW0xco8E/ ) , I remembered an idea I had a few years ago: using a monitor as a "camera" for "spying" or possibly even video conferencing (without additional equipment.) Would anyone be willing to work on this with me for this contest?

Hey, my group is currently in this contest! We did the Aurora Digitalis light show. I even wore my LED skirt, which you can see in this video.

We sure could use some more votes, if anyone wants to help out. I can answer any questions, too.
