Probably the Hollywood effects people are saying, yah, so what, we've been morphing things for years, but I'm not too familiar with such an effect being applied principally for locomotion. I'm sure too that something similar could be accomplished by electrical excitation of gases or other electrical means, rather than using those cumbersome air hoses.
