Innnnteresting, especially if we want to issue RFID proximity badges for workshop use, TechShop style. Thanks for finding & posting this.

If I remember correctly, attendees generally get some sweet shwag, although not as cool as TI's free developer's kit(sheer jealousness overcame me when I saw what my buddies brought away from it)

I've done a couple of the free NI events in the past- generally not worth the time.

Basically, it's just a drawn-out sales pitch for their products. If you are already using the products they're pitching, you can get some good info from them. If not, you may find out whether you want to use them or not.

I would not attend it expecting to find anything more useful out about RFID than one could get from looking on the web, nor would I expect to get much beyond some free snacks and beverages. And in terms of hobbyist level stuff, NI is almost always completely out of the realm of possibility. The cheapest license price on their flagship product- LabVIEW- is $1200.

I will echo Mike's comments.
My employer has sent me to quite a number of these.
We use LabVIEW and NI hardware extensively but I've seldom left with much of value.
It's usually a pitch for new hardware that is often a bit immature in terms of drivers.
And/or software that is quite expensive for the hobbyist.
If I do see something that has potential I just get our local rep to lend me it for a few weeks to try it out.

As far as shwag......I did win a raffle for a t-shirt once!
Too bad it wasn't my size.
But I bet you could score a pen.
