Nothing really. I can bring in a tap&die set I have laying around, and I can bring in a rotary tool to keep at the shop.
I've got some random old-don't-even-know-if-it-works electronics bits I can donate to the scrap heap.

How about a 36" high def TV? A coworker of mine has a TV that he says is broke and wants to give away. I'm going to see if I can get some information on how it is "broke." Should I try to get this from him, even if it seems a physical/electronic fault?

if it's fixable yes, if not the modern televisions are quite a waste of time to try and debug. Lets hear what they say about the "broke"ness of it.

OK, turns out the TV is a 48" rear projection Mitsubishi from about 2003, not a flat panel. The problem stated was that it doesn't turn on.

I'd be game to try fixing it, IF there was little risk involved (i.e., we wouldn't be saddled with 200 pounds of worthless electronics at the end.

I THINK a rear projection TV may have some really fun stuff to steal- starting with a 48" fresnel lens. If we couldn't fix it, it may be worth a tear down- the actual electronics that need to be properly disposed of are likely quite small.

Mike, thanks for the response. I agree there would probably be some useful parts for us. A rear screen TV like this would be pretty huge though, of course. I can see if my coworker is able to bring it over to the H.F. I think he lives in Woodbury.

[Edit: If anyone has a contrary opinion - that we shouldn't bring this monster to the H.F. - please post. I don't know how soon my coworker needs to get rid of the TV; he'd probably be OK with waiting a few days for our decision.]
