All,
TC maker has been invited to participate in Seward Neighborhood Group's (SNG's) Kings Fair, at Matthews Park in the Seward neighborhood, on September 17, from noon to 5 PM. The theme this year is "Moving Forward into the Next 50 Years"; last year was the 50th Anniversary of the Seward neighborhood's founding.
I have already attended one organizational meeting on behalf of TC Maker. The next meeting is tomorrow at 6:45 at Matthews Park. Event sponsors so far look to be Comcast and SCCA. SNG would appreciate other local sponsors. There may be one or two performance stages at the event. The organizing group is looking for performers to fill available time slots, and we are invited to make referrals. A stage might be obtained from ARCE rental, but other sources will be considered. The group will try to get a local solar powered stage as well. Organizers are looking to have a zero waste event, by obtaining recycle bins and bio-degradable bottles. SNG will have an information table with a lot of materials and history of Kings Fair and the Seward neighborhood. With respect to TC Maker, the organizers were thinking they could get Nice Ride bike rentals for going to the Hack Factory for tours. An idea discussed was that TC Maker could be given its own area to do what it wants, but of course interactive activities for the public are most important. I mentioned that we could demo our model siege engines, bring the Operation game, and possibly do clothesline racers or bristle bots. As TC Maker develops its participation plans, I will be the point person for contacting SNG. If you would like to attend tomorrow's meeting with me, or if anyone has further ideas, contributions, or would like to volunteer help for this event, please reply to this post.

I went to the organizational meeting yesterday. Performance spots are essentially filled, so we need not consider offering a performer. Nice Ride bicycle rentals to visit Hack Factory are still possible but not yet finalized.
This week the SNG will be looking to establish their program for the event, and TC Maker will need to make some commitments as to what we'll do/bring.
They're also still looking for "fair" type food, so if anyone has a contact/provider we could make a suggestion.
I think we couild bring the Operation game, a siege engine, and possibly bristlebots, at least.
Who else is willing to help with this event and attend the fair?

Well I have been thinking about this and I remembered my Granddad's ferris wheel. There are plans for a version of one at http://www.vintageprojects.com/kids/squarris-wheel.html. It wouldn't be that hard to make a version of it if some people would like to help. That would be very fairee.

Is it just me or does that wheel not have to have a minimum mass, lest that end poorly. Granted adding a motor could solve some of that. I get how you load the first two kids, but it gets hazy after that.

The parent does have a bit of work while loading but it really isn't that bad.

OK folks, it's getting down to the home stretch and we need some help here.We need some people to help and commit to one or more of the following activities: - Clean up the Operation game, make sure all parts are still with it and that fresh batteries are installed
- Help transport materials to Kings Fair and do set up
- Man our table from noon to finish
- Help transport materials back to the Hack Factory
- Operate the Spoonapault, mini Trebuchet, or whatever else we're going to bring
Please post if you are able to help. Thanks!
