We've got the hardware... Several of us have the know how. It seems everytime one of us offers to get something setup that will last for more than 2 consecutive days, we're told "Oh, i'm waiting to get" whatever expensive enterprise solution "so we can do it right".
I've heard that for quite some time now. It's getting old.
Please, PLEASE, just let a couple of us work together to get what we currently have (or members willing to donate) working for coverage throughout the HF. then, when we get full non-profit status, maybe we can get the awesome/expensive solution donated.

I found out through another non-profit (FreeGeek Twin Cities) that the cities WiFi has a number of contractual accounts set aside for non-profits, there is an application process.
I was also told that they had many more accounts than applicants.
Now that is what I heard, and I may be missing some details, but getting an account for backup ( they are very basic access, low bandwidth) would give us some redundancy...
Just tossing that out there.

So, what's the issue with this? It's not difficult to plug in an AP in and setup encryption? My philosophy of doing things is get it working THEN add features to it like ldap, quotas, etc. Is there a certain policy or was there an incident that is holding this up? I'm pretty sure I have the equipment and skills to setup whatever wifi infrastructure the HF needs, so who are the people I need to talk to to get something rolling?

Kelly and I worked for about 8hrs rebuilding as much as the network as we could without admin access. We rerouted some cables and set up some wireless routers. Couldn't get the net4826? to work so we just used the off the shelf routers. New network is on the board. Wifi was scanned and the access point in the class room got < -80dbm all the way from the wood shop corners to the beginning of the welding area. The one in the lounge reaches most of the front area and the basement. happyk
Please do not mess with.

wow, guys, this is awesome.
Going to make life at the space sooo much better.
You guys rock.
Is there a way to secure the gear in a friendly excellent day so that people like me don't come in and helpfully switch cables and settings around?
