I"m going to be marking the computers I'm loaning, as well as noting in the inventory database, that they're not "up for grabs" or scavengable.
That's going to happen tomorrow, (today at this point) unless procrastination rears its ugly head once more.

I plan on coming with goodies around 10 - noon. I hope we can get these going today. What if we setup to pxe boot? Several images can reside on a server and the computers be configured to a known good state for whatever need arises for them? No hdds needed, afaik...

Wow, it's like telepathy. I was also thinking we should set up to pxe boot!
and then I was thinking "Hey, I have no idea what that is, but I bet it's awesome!"
I'm still thinking that.
pxe sounds like booting up with the os goodies coming over wires from the network rather than wires from a hard drive, is that the case?
It sounds excellent.
Make it so.
I"m excited to see this in action, thanks much!

We got 2 computers finished today out of the 8 o the floor. There are 3 on the side desk that id like to use but want to make sure they're available. 1 mobo out of the 8 was bad, swapped it out for a gigabyte mobo that was laying around. Ill post more when I'm in front of a computer, but wanted to let y'all know the progress. Also, we need atx cases, socket 775 heatsinks, >= 20gb hdds, and lcds. Didn't get to freegeek today. Microchip had 40gb refurbished for 8.
Lets make this a learning experience! Who would like to come and help and learn more about computers?
