so i've come upon a brilliant idea for a project, however i'm a little unsure about some technical bits.

long story short i'll need to ~precision etch some thin stainless steel (feeler gauge). (needs straight thin lines in locations i want, and can define in CAD software) how doable is that?

A laser etcher will do wonders for the project, just make sure to keep the output power low to keep it from curling (their precision is unbeatable). Also, another cool approach with a bit different result would be to do a chemical etch on it. Either way, pretty doable!

k. i figured chemical would do it, just a lil unsure as to if it'd muck with the stainless factor too much.

This much I can answer... that won't be a problem. Stainless steel is stainless all the way through; it's not like you'd be stripping the chrome off. And you wash the etching compound off when you're done.

sure! it'll be a few weeks out at a minimum, i've got a few anvils in the fire at the moment (long past irons in the fire, much easier to just toss the whole shebang in)

Wait -- you're etching anvils?

no. actually i cant' find my anvil. :/ i'm starting to think it got lost in one of the two moves last year.

i'll be etching shim stock.
