Quarterly Clean-Up, Saturday August 5th 10am-6pm

August 1st, 2017 by MechaVile

The elder gods of cleanliness have chosen you, young hobbyist, as their avatar.

It’s that time again, makers, to clean and rearrange our spaces to make it better for everyone. If you have a bit of time and a bit of love for our little maker space, show up and help us clean our areas with other like-minded and like-hearted makers. Our focus this quarterly clean-up will be the front lobby area and installing vinyl flooring into the soon-to-be computer lab in addition to our normal seasonal space sprucing.

The shop will be closed to projects between 10am and 6pm so show up any time between then to help out. Shops will resume normal operation after 6pm.

The Rocketeer Has Left The Earth

July 18th, 2017 by MechaVile

A fond farewell from all of us to our friend and ally, Blair.

As most of you know our long-standing member and prop-maker, Blair, has recently passed after a bout with one of the most formidable of foes– cancer. He’s been near and dear to us and his many projects have delighted more folks than I could ever enumerate. It’s with a heavy heart that I make this post today. But the Earth still spins and the living must keep living and striving ever forward, even in the wake of our communal loss. To commemorate Blair’s memory, we’ll be having a cookout Wednesday the 19th of July and, on a date yet to be determined, hold a screening of The Rocketeer as well as HG Wells: The Time Machine.

There will be other services and memorials exalting Blair’s life in the following month as well. I wish you all the best.

Quarterly Clean Up 9-24-16 10am-6pm

quarterly

Hey Twin Cities, it’s that time again.

Quarterly clean up is scheduled for Saturday 9-24-16 from 10am to 6pm so the Hack Factory will be unavailable for projects during that time. If you have materials laying around the shop that are unlabeled, no longer active or have outdated tags make sure you come in between now and then to claim those so they do not get thrown away or moved to Up-For-Grabs.

If you have time that day, please consider spending a bit to help us more thoroughly clean our space and dispose of unneeded materials and abandoned projects. You know we love our space and our members so if you’ve got some elbow grease to spare we’d appreciate your presence and support in making this another successful cleaning day.

And as always Twin Cities…

Hack Well. Hack Hard.

Quarterly Clean Up
December 19th – 10am to 6pm

Hey Twin Cities, it’s that time of year again and that means another shop clean up to get all our machines and spaces up to snuff. Last clean up had a low turnout so we need the newbies and the veterans to band together to help us keep the place spruced up for everyone. Come in before the 19th to pick up supplies and update tags or come on the 19th and lend us some of your time to move, sweep, rearrange and/or clean what you can. Every warm body helps and many hands make heavy loads lighter.

Our focus this clean up will be the wood shop, the broken tool storage (where the life size Operation game is currently resting with other machines) and the overhead storage above the laser room, server room and hallway. Of course doing anything as small as grabbing a broom and dust pan is much appreciated and our gratitude for volunteering your time and effort is eternal and unwavering.

Open Filming Thursday Oct. 29th 5-7pm

October 27th, 2015 by MechaVile

Hello Twin Cities. As some of us remember the Hack Factory hosted a premiere party for a show called How To Make Everything in which the host, Andy George, makes everyday items from scratch. It’s well produced and quite informative.

Check out a couple episodes on ye olde Tube of You’s here:

Well they liked Hack Factory so much that they’re coming for another tour of the facility to give us a spot in an upcoming sidebar series called Meet The Makers where they go back to the locations for a better look at the crafters who helped Andy on his quest.

On Thursday the 29th some crew (maybe even Andy himself, oooooo!) will be filming the area and projects starting from 5pm to whenever they get enough cool stuff, which I imagine will be around 7pm but is as of yet undecided.

They’d like to see sparks fly, things in operation and projects being projected upon.  Makers making things as making makers make. So cancel your date plans, brush the dust off your green tag and swing on by if you’ve got something cool to work on.

We’ll need a lot of clean space to set up in so an impromptu cleaning salon will commence on Wednesday to prepare. Time: Undesignated. Whenever there are bodies and impetus.
